Benny Parsons, born on July 12, 1941, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, was a prominent American NASCAR driver and later a television broadcaster for the sport. Renowned for his consistency and skill on the race track, Parsons left an indelible mark on the world of stock car racing.

Parsons began his NASCAR career in the late 1960s and quickly established himself as a competent and competitive driver. His most significant achievement came in 1973 when he won the NASCAR Cup Series championship.

Throughout his racing career, Parsons was known for his smooth driving style and his ability to avoid wrecks, earning him the nickname "Benny the Smooth Operator." He won 21 races in the NASCAR Cup Series, including the prestigious Daytona 500 in 1975. Parsons was also the first driver to qualify for the Daytona 500 with a speed of over 200 mph, setting a new standard in the sport.

After retiring from driving in the late 1980s, Parsons transitioned to a successful career as a television broadcaster. He shared his extensive knowledge of the sport and his insights as a former driver, becoming a beloved figure in the NASCAR broadcasting community.

Parsons was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1994 and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2017, recognizing his contributions and achievements in the sport.
