Bernice Claire (1907-2003) paired with Alexander Gray as the first film operetta couple, preceding Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. Her first film appearance was in No, No Nanette (1930); a dozen movie roles followed through 1938. Claire sang on radio and with orchestras. She appeared on Broadway in The Chocolate Soldier (1934).
