Even as a young stage actress, Beulah Bondi (1888-1981) was often cast as an older woman. She played Jimmy Stewart's mother in three films, including Mister Smith Goes to Washington (1938) and It's a Wonderful Life (1946), and yet again on Stewart's TV series (1972).
