BILL ROMANOWSKI
Born: April 02, 1966 in Vernon, Connecticut
Biography
After graduating with honors from Boston College, Bill Romanowski (b. 1966) played in 271 consecutive NFL game over 16 seasons through 2003 with four clubs: San Francisco, Philadelphia, Denver, and (in his final season) Oakland. He deliberately concealed several concussions in order to stay on the field. He is the only linebacker to have started five Super Bowls, four of which ended in victory. An intense competitor, Romanowski confesses in his autobiography - Romo: My Life on the Edge (2006) - that he spent $200,000 a year on doctors, herbs and supplements, including illegal but not yet detectable steroids - to prolong his football career. (He was a customer of the notorious BALCO, the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative.) Romanowski was involved in many fights on the field, and was sued successfully by former Raider teammate Marcus Williams, on whom he inflicted a career-ending punch in the face.
