Billie Jo Spears, born on January 14, 1938, in Beaumont, Texas, was a popular American country music singer. She is best known for her strong, bluesy, vocal style and her role in the 1970s outlaw country movement.

Spears began her music career early, cutting her first singles when she was just 13 years old. However, her major breakthrough came in the late 1960s when she signed with Capitol Records. In 1969, her single "Mr. Walker, It's All Over" reached number 4 on the Billboard country charts, marking the start of her commercial success. Her most popular hit, "Blanket on the Ground," came in 1975 and reached number 1 on the country charts, while also crossing over to the pop charts. Other successful singles include "What I've Got in Mind," "Misty Blue," and "If You Want Me." In addition to her success in the United States, Spears also had a significant following in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with several of her singles charting highly in those countries.
