BOB OJEDA
Born: December 17, 1957 in Los Angeles, California
Bob Ojeda, born on December 17, 1957, in Los Angeles, California, is a former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1980 to 1994. Over his 15-season career, Ojeda played for several teams, including the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, and the New York Yankees.
Ojeda's MLB career commenced with the Boston Red Sox, where he debuted on July 13, 1980. However, it was with the New York Mets that Ojeda achieved his most notable success. In 1986, he was a key member of the Mets' starting rotation, posting an 18-5 record with a 2.57 ERA, which contributed significantly to the team's World Series victory over the Boston Red Sox.
Aside from his success in the 1986 season, Ojeda's career was marked by his resilience in overcoming challenges, including injuries and a tragic boating accident in 1993 that claimed the lives of fellow Cleveland Indians pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews. Ojeda, the sole survivor of the accident, made a remarkable return to pitching the following season, demonstrating his determination and mental toughness.
After retiring as a player, Ojeda transitioned into broadcasting, serving as a television analyst for Mets games, where his insights and knowledge of the game were highly valued. He also took up coaching roles, imparting his experience and wisdom to younger players.
