Tomas Padro Sanchez Griñan (1856-1974) was a doctor in pharmacy and a combatant of the three Cuban wars. He joined the rebellion of 1868 in 1877 providing medical assistance and the next year he was under command of Colonel Leonardo Marmol and Flor Crombet. Tomas Sanchez participated in the attacks to Cristo, Aserradero and in the Protest of Baragua. During the Little War he joined Guillermon Moncada and in 1880 Sanchez Griñan was given the rank of Commander and designated Chief of Major State of Jose Maceo. Later, Tomas and his parents immigrated to Jamaica but due to a betrayal he was captured in high seas and sent to Spanish prisons. In 1890 he participated in the peace of Manganeso as a conspirator and since the first day of 1895 he followed the orders of Jose Maceo in the General Barracks of the First Force, and in October was designated Chief of Major State in the Oriental Department, and afterwards he served as a Finance Administrator, from where he resigned in 1897. Tomas Padro was also delegate of the First Force in the Constituent Assembly of La Yaya. On January 4, 1898 was named Deputy Inspector of the First Force and four months later General Calixto Garcia advised him to recruit men to participate in the campaign of Santiago de Cuba. Sanchez Griñan obtained various raises during his war time: Lieutenant Colonel on May 1, 1895; Colonel, on August 26, 1895: and Brigadier General on August 18, 1898. Due to his merits, he was elected Mayor of Santiago de Cuba, President of the cultured and prestigious society Club San Carlos, President of the Territorial Council of Veterans and President of the Veterans and Patriots of the East Province. Tomas Padro Sanchez died on July 22, 1974.
