Vicente T. Blaz (1928-2014) was an officer in the United States Marine Corps., and served as delegate to Congress from Guam and Deputy Chief of Staff for Reserve Affairs. Joining the Marine Corps at the start of the Korean War, Blaz enlisted in the reserves, attending college and graduating in 1963 with a Master of Arts degree and a commission as second lieutenant. He served in several capacities through his early career, and was appointed as Chief of the United Nations and Maritime Matters Branch, International Negotiations Division, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1972 to 1975. He retired from the Marines in 1980 as a Brigadier General, and was the highest ranked Chamorro to have served in the USMC. His honors and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 service stars, and a Vietnam Gallantry Cross. In 1985, he was elected as a U.S. Representative from Guam, serving until 1993.
