CAPTAIN & TENNILLE
Biography | show moreshow less
Captain & Tennille were a popular American musical duo that rose to fame in the mid-1970s. Comprised of "Captain" Daryl Dragon (born August 27, 1942) and Toni Tennille (born May 8, 1940), the duo was best known for their string of successful singles that consistently ranked high on the pop charts.

The duo's breakout hit came in 1975 with "Love Will Keep Us Together", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. They continued their success with hits like "Muskrat Love" (1976) and "Do That to Me One More Time" (1979), which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Before teaming up with Tennille, Dragon was a keyboardist for The Beach Boys. His moniker "Captain" was bestowed on him by Mike Love due to his penchant for wearing a captain's hat onstage. Their professional collaboration extended into their personal lives as well. Dragon and Tennille were married from 1975 until their divorce in 2014. Despite their divorce, Tennille was by Dragon's side when he passed away on January 2, 2019, in Prescott, Arizona.
