Carl Albert (1908-2000), who was known as "The Little Giant From Dixie", served as a Democratic Congressman from Oklahoma from 1947-1977. In addition to being the Democratic Whip, he later served as House Majority Leader (1962-1971) and Speaker of the House (1971-1976).
