Biography
Carl Neumann Degler (1921-2014) won the Pulitzer Prize in History (1972) for his Neither Black Nor White, a comparative study of slavery and race relations in Brazil and the US. The Stanford professor's Out of Our Past (1959) was a widely used American history text. Degler, the author of 7 books, including several dealing with Southern regional culture, was President of the American Historical Association (1986).
