CHARLES M. REED
Biography
CHARLES MANNING REED (1803-1871), a Pennsylvania businessman engaged in shipping and banking, had served one term in the US Congress (1843-1845). Interestingly he was elected as a Whig, not as a Democrat. The deep national divisions leading up to the Civil War caused many to change party allegiance.
