Biography
Charles M. Schwab, who had begun his career as an engineer at Andrew Carnegie's Homestead Steel Mill, became President of Carnegie Steel in 1897, serving until 1901. He was influential in persuading Carnegie to sell out to J.P. Morgan, thereby forming U.S. Steel, where Schwab was President from 1901-1903 Schwab then acquired Bethlehem Steel, a leading producer of structural steel and armor plate where he became Chairman of the Board till his death in 1939.
