Christopher Isherwood (1904-1986) is best remembered for his Berlin Stories (1935-1939), which became the basis for the popular stage and film musical Cabaret. Born in England, he lived in the U.S. from 1939 until his death. A convert to Hinduism, Isherwood translated many works from that faith into English. California's Huntington Library, the repository for Isherwood's correspondence with key literary figures including close friend W. H. Auden, has staged a special exhibition on Isherwood (July 6-October 3, 2004).
