CLEVELAND BROWNS
Biography | show moreshow less
The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. Established in 1944, the team was a member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) before joining the National Football League (NFL) in 1950. Named after their original coach and co-founder, Paul Brown, the Browns have had a rich and storied history.

From 1946 to 1949, during their time in the AAFC, the Browns dominated the league, winning all four championship titles. The team continued its winning tradition in the NFL, clinching the championship title in 1950, 1954, 1955, and 1964. The Browns' 1964 NFL Championship, where they shut out the Baltimore Colts, remains one of the franchise's most celebrated achievements. Despite a period of decline and lack of postseason success since the late 1960s, the Browns have remained a key part of American football culture. They have produced a significant number of Hall of Fame players, including Jim Brown, Otto Graham, and Lou Groza. In 1996, the original Browns relocated to Baltimore, becoming the Ravens. However, due to significant public outcry and negotiations with the NFL, the Browns' history, records, colors, and name remained in Cleveland and a new Cleveland Browns team resumed play in 1999.
