COMMODORE RUSH RICHARD WALLACE
Biography
Rush Richard "R.R." Wallace (1835-1914), a Naval Academy graduate, was lieutenant commander of the USS Shenandoah during the attacks on Forts Fisher and Jackson during the Civil War. He later commanded the US Navy yards at Newport and then at Washington, D.C. Retiring as a commodore in 1897, he continued to serve on the Lighthouse Board and the Board of Awards.
