Biography
Conrad Nagel (1897-1970), who was then a character actor, appeared in the films Stage Struck and The Vicious Circle. The following year, he would host the TV series, The Silver Theater, which he had previously hosted on radio. A stage actor since 1914, Nagel made his film debut in 1918 and became one of the top matinee idols of the silent screen. His feature film credits include Little Women (1918), Quality Street (1927), All That Heaven Allows (1956) and The Man Who Understood Women (1959, his last film). One of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (and its President from October 1931-April 1933), Nagel received a special Academy Award for his work on the Motion Picture Relief Fund in 1939.
