Biography | show moreshow less
Crystal Gayle, born Brenda Gail Webb on January 9, 1951, in Paintsville, Kentucky, is an acclaimed American country music singer. Famous for her nearly floor-length hair and smooth vocal delivery, Gayle's distinctive style led her to international fame in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Gayle, the youngest sister of country music legend Loretta Lynn, began her music career in the 1960s but came into prominence in the mid-1970s. Her breakout hit, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," released in 1977, catapulted her to international stardom. The song won a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and was a crossover success, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In the late 1970s and 1980s, Gayle continued to dominate the country charts, with a total of twenty number-one country hits during that period. These include "You Never Miss a Real Good Thing (Till He Says Goodbye)", "Talking in Your Sleep", and "Half the Way". Gayle also made forays into television, appearing in musical specials and as a guest star on various television shows. Her collaborations with other artists, like "Makin' Up for Lost Time" with Gary Morris for the prime-time soap opera "Dallas", further expanded her influence and reach in the music industry.
