Biography
In 1933, journalist David Lawrence (1888-1973) founded "U.S. News", which became "U.S. News & World Report" in 1947. Lawrence, who had previously published "United States Daily" (1926-1933), also wrote a syndicated political news column and was a member of Washington's Press Corps. He chronicled his experiences in Diary of a Washington Correspondent (1942), and his books also include The True Story of Woodrow Wilson (1924), Beyond the New Deal (1934) and Nine Honest Men (1936). In 1970, Lawrence received a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Richard Nixon.
