DAVID WELLS
Born: May 20, 1963 in Torrance, California
Major league pitcher Wells, born in 1963, will probably be best remembered for pitching a perfect game - no hits, walks or errors - with the New York Yankees against the Minnesota Twins on May 17, 1998. The feat made him one of only 18 pitchers in major league history (as of this biography) and only the third Yankee pitcher to pitch a perfect game. His major league career stretched from 1987 to 2007 and was marked by three All-Star appearances (1995, 1998 and 2000), two championship teams (1992 Toronto Blue Jays and 1998 Yankees), nine seasons with 15 or more wins (1991, 1995, 1997-2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005) and one with 20 or more wins (2000). Wells also led the American League in win-loss percentage and shutouts in 1998, complete games and innings pitched in 1999 and wins and games started in 2000. In all, he had ERA of 4.13 with 239 wins, 157 losses, 12 shutouts and 2,201 Ks, (which, incidentally, makes him the 50th top strikeout pitcher, at least as of this biography, in major league history).
