DICK VAN DYKE

Dick Van Dyke was born on December 13, 1925, in West Plains, Missouri and is an American actor, comedian, singer, and dancer.
He was raised in Danville, Illinois, and served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II before beginning his entertainment career in radio and as a television announcer. Van Dyke achieved national fame with his leading role in the Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie (1960), for which he won a Tony Award. He reprised the role in the 1963 film adaptation. His breakthrough in television came with The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966), where he portrayed comedy writer Rob Petrie. The series earned multiple Emmy Awards.
He starred in several major motion pictures in the 1960s, most notably as Bert in Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins (1964), and as Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968). Other notable film roles include The Art of Love (1965) and Fitzwilly (1967). From 1971 to 1974, he led The New Dick Van Dyke Show and later portrayed Dr. Mark Sloan in the television drama Diagnosis: Murder (1993–2001).
