Biography | show moreshow less
Dickie Moore (1925-2015) was a child film star in the 1930s, playing the title role in Oliver Twist (1932) and appearing in several Our Gang comedies. Although he had the honor of bestowing the first screen kiss on the 14-year-old Shirley Temple in Miss Annie Rooney (1942), Moore, who made his acting debut at the age of 18 months, found few adult roles. His last lead part was in Jive Junction (1943). Moore retired from film acting in the mid-1950s, first serving as the first public relations director of Actors Equity (from 1957) before forming his own public relations firm, Dick Moore Associates. Moore also produced his own industrial shows. Moore, who has taught, wrote, directed and appeared occasionally on stage after his "retirement", has written a book, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, (but Don't Have Sex or Take the Car) (1984), about the tribulations of child stardom. He married actress Jane Powell, his third wife, in 1988.
