Biography
Speedway motorbike racing was a popular sport throughout the British Empire from the late 1920s. Among the sport's stars was Dicky Smythe, of Queensland, Australia, a finalist in that country's "Golden Helmet" competitions in the early 1930s. Moving to England in 1936, he joined team competition with the Harringay Tigers. Smythe is pictured on many cigarette cards of the era. He is shown on his bike at London's Wembley Stadium.
