Biography
Dolly Parton (b. 1946) is one of country music's most recognizable and popular female singers. The winner of five Grammy Awards, Parton had a number of No. 1 singles, including "I Will Always Love You", "Here You Come Again", "Two Doors Down" and "Islands in the Stream", and six no. 1 country albums (Here You Come Again, 1977; New Harvest...First Gathering, 1977; Heartbreaker, 1978; 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs, 1981; Trio, 1987; Eagle When She Flies, 1991). In 1980, Parton made her acting debut in the film 9 to 5, which earned her an Academy Award nomination and a Grammy for the title song. Her other film credits include Steel Magnolias (1989) and The Best Little Whore House in Texas (1982). Parton has also developed a $100-million entertainment enterprise, which includes her theme park, Dollywood.
