Biography | show moreshow less
Don Knotts (1924-2006) played zealous but inept Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show, televised on CBS from 1960-1968. Knotts, who left the series in 1965, won three Emmy Awards portraying Barney Fife while he was a regular, adding two more for appearances in an episode during the 1965-1966 season, "The Return of Barney Fife" and in the 1966-1967 season, "Barney Comes to Mayberry". Knotts also appeared in such films as No Time for Sergeants (1955) with Griffith and in The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964), The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966) and The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968). Fans of 1950s television remember Knotts as the extremely nervous "man in the street" interviewee on The Steve Allen Show (1956-1960).
