Dorothy Kirsten (1910-1992) combined operatic and popular music careers. A band vocalist and member of the Kate Smith Chorus in the 1930s, she got her own radio show, Keepsakes, in 1943. Kirsten sang with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nelson Eddy, as well as Perry Como. She made her opera debut in Chicago in 1940, and sang with New York's Metropolitan Opera for 30 years, beginning in 1945.
