Dorothy Stickney was an American actress best known for her long career on Broadway and her work in films and television. Born on June 21, 1896, in Dickinson, North Dakota, she pursued a career in the performing arts, which spanned over six decades.
Stickney's most significant and enduring role was as Vinnie in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Life with Father," which ran on Broadway from 1939 to 1947. In a remarkable feat of longevity, she appeared in more than 3,000 performances of the play opposite her husband, Howard Lindsay, who was also the co-author of the play. In addition to her work on stage, Stickney had a number of film and television credits. Among them, her role in the film "I Never Sang for My Father" (1970) was a notable high point. Her television appearances included popular shows like "The Defenders," "Dr. Kildare," and "The Waltons." Stickney also authored her memoirs, which provide insights into her life in the theatre.
