DOUGLAS RAY CLIFFORD
Born: April 24, 1945 in Palo Alto, California
While still in junior high school, John Fogerty, his brother Tom, Stu Cook and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford formed the musical combo which later became Credence Clearwater Revival. The band hit the big time in 1969 with its first major hit: "Proud Mary." Performing as a trio after Tom Fogerty left the group, Credence had a string of major hits in the early 1970s, including "Bad Moon Rising" and "Travelin' Band." Richie Unterberger of All Music Guide describes the group's music as a "concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp rock, R&B and country." Although Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, the group's drummer, composed several songs for CCR, "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" was written by lead singer John Fogerty. This popular hit has been covered by many artists, including Rod Stewart, the Ramones, Joan Jett and Bonnie Tyler. It was heard on the first episode of the TV series Cold Case, the last episode of Stargate SG-1, and the soundtrack of several movies.
