Doye O'Dell (1912-2001) played fiddle and guitar on radio stations in the Southwest before joining the Texas Cowboys, a country vaudeville show. During World War II he had an NBC radio show, Doye O'Dell and the Radio Rangers. He had some country hits in the early 1950s, including two songs later popularized by Elvis Presley: "Old Shep" and "Blue Christmas". His "Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves" foreshadowed the trucker music of later decades. He was seen in several Western films, and on such TV series as Maverick and Cheyenne. He won two Emmys for a children's program, Country Thrills.
