Edgar Bergen (1903 – 1978) was an American actor and radio performer, best remembered for his proficiency as a ventriloquist. Born Edgar John Berggren in Chicago, Illinois, he was noted for his comedic interplay with his dummy characters, particularly Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd. Bergen's career was marked by significant contributions to radio, cinema, and television.
