EDWARD ELLIS
Born: November 12, 1870 in Coldwater, Michigan
Died: July 26, 1952 in Beverly Hills, California
Biography
Edward Ellis (1870-1952) was a well-known stage actor from the 1890s, and appeared in two dozen Broadway plays in the first third of the twentieth century. On film, he starred in A Man to Remember (1938) and Main Street Lawyer (1939), but usually played character roles. Among the latter were Shirley Temple's uncle in Little Miss Broadway (1938) and the murder victim in The Thin Man (1934. The title originally referred to the victim Ellis, not to the detective.) Ellis had appeared in several silent films, and was married to silent screen actress Josephine Stevens from 1917 until his death.
