Died: September 29, 1970 in Encino, California
Often mistaken for an Englishman, Brooklyn-born Horton (1886-1970) began his film career in silent movies. As manager of Los Angeles' Majestic Theater in the late 1920s, he helped train several silent film leading men to use their voices properly in stage work, preparing them for talking pictures. Horton played supporting roles in the 1930s and 1940s, most notably in the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers musicals at RKO. During this period, he also became a radio actor. Horton's voice was heard as the narrator of the "Fractured Fairy Tales" segment on the ABC cartoon series Rocky and His Friends (1959-1961), and he starred on ABC's F Troop (1965-1967) as Hekawi Indian tribe medicine man Roaring Chicken.
