EDWARD LIVINGSTON

Died: May 23, 1836 in Rhinebeck, New York
Biography
Livingston served as a Democrat representing New York in the House of Representatives (1795-1801) and Louisiana in the House (1823-1829) and in the U.S. Senate (1829-1831). He was on General Andrew Jackson's staff at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 and served as Jackson's Secretary of State (1831-1833). From 1833-1835, he was U.S. Minister to France. His older brother, Robert R. Livingston, had been U.S. Minister to France (1801-1804) at the time of the Louisiana Purchase.
