Biography
Eleanor Powell (1912-1982), was a featured dancer in several Broadway reviews, then was cast in Hollywood musicals from 1934. Praised starring roles included Lady Be Good (1941) and Ship Ahoy (1942). Professionally inactive during her marriage to Glenn Ford (1943-1959), she returned to the limelight thereafter with a popular nightclub show which played in New York and Las Vegas. For many years, her tap dancing act was considered one of the best in the country. In 1984, she was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to early film through her acting and singing performances.
