Biography
The son of one great NFL quarterback, Archie Manning, and the younger brother of another, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning (b. 1981) was named first team All American and won many other honors while leading the University of Mississippi football team to a victory in the Cotton Bowl (2003). The first pick of the 2004 NFL draft, Eli earned the permanent animosity of San Diego fans by refusing to sign with the Chargers, who worked out a trade sent him to the New York Giants. After spending 2004 as an understudy, Eli Manning became the Giants' starting quarterback in 2005. On February 3, 2008, Manning indeed became MVP of Super Bowl XLII, as his Giants upset the heavily favored New England Patriots, who had defeated the Giants in the final game of a perfect regular season, 17-14.
