Died: March 18, 2010 in Santa Ynez, California
Biography
Fess Parker (1924-2010) began his film career with a one-scene bit part as a terrified witness in the 1954 horror classic Them that brought him to the attention of Walt Disney. Disney then cast him as Davy Crockett in a series of phenomenally successful TV specials. The theme song of his 1955 Davy Crockett television film, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, was recorded not only by Parker but later by such diverse artists as Eddy Arnold, Louis Armstrong, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Burl Ives and Mannheim Steamroller. Parker remained on the Disney lot until 1959, starring in such films as The Great Locomotive Chase (1956), Westward Ho, the Wagons! (1957), Old Yeller (1957) and Light in the Forest (1958). He later recreated yet another frontier hero, starring on TV's Daniel Boone from 1964-1969. Parker made appearances on various programs but retired from the industry in 1974.
