FLORENCE GRIFFITH JOYNER
Born: December 21, 1959 in Los Angeles, California
Died: September 21, 1998 in Mission Viejo, California
Biography
Florence Griffith Joyner (1959-1998) was an American track and field star, considered the fastest woman of all time. She set the records for both the 100 and 200 metre dashes in the 1988 Olympics, and retired after her victory. However, her victory was plagued by accusations of steroids and drug uses, although no proof of such claims was ever found. She passed repeated blood tests during the 1988 Olympics, which the Chairman of the Olympic medical commission claimed Joyce was singled out for due to the rumors. Her death in 1998 sparked more rumors, but autopsies found no use of any illegal or banned substances, and instead stated that she passed of an epileptic seizure brought on by a brain abnormality.
