FRANK A. VANDERLIP
Biography
Frank A. Vanderlip (1864-1937) arranged the financing of the Spanish American War. Thereafter, he became Vice President and then President (1909-1919) of National City Bank of New York (now Citibank). In 1910 he was one of seven men invited to Jekyll Island, Georgia by Senator Nelson Aldrich on the pretext of a duck hunt. Instead, the Jekyll Island Group outlined the proposal which Congress later enacted as the Federal Reserve System. The Economic Club of New York, founded in 1907, remains active today as an elite group of business people who meet to discuss vital issues.
