General Bernard William Rogers, born on July 16, 1921, in Fairview, Kansas, was a distinguished officer in the United States Army and served as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

Rogers graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1943. He began his military career during World War II and continued to serve in various capacities throughout the Cold War era. His early career included serving in the Korean War and various staff and command positions within the U.S. Army.

One of Rogers' significant achievements was his appointment as the Chief of Staff of the United States Army in 1976, a position he held until 1979.

In 1979, Rogers was appointed as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, a role he held until 1987. As SACEUR, he was responsible for NATO's military planning and operations in Europe. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in the development and implementation of NATO's strategy to counter the Soviet military threat, notably advocating for the deployment of intermediate-range nuclear forces in Europe.
