Biography
Lauris Norstad (1907-1988) was Chief of Staff of the 20th Air Force (1944-1946) commemorated in this illustration. He had direct responsibility for planning the two atomic bomb missions against Japan. As the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (1956-1963), he was the Commander of NATO forces.
