George Arthur Foster is a distinguished former American professional baseball player. Foster, renowned for his powerful hitting ability, carved out a remarkable career in Major League Baseball (MLB), predominantly as a left fielder.

Foster debuted in the MLB with the San Francisco Giants in September 1969. However, it was after his move to the Cincinnati Reds in a trade during the 1971 season that his career truly took off. Foster had his breakthrough season in 1977 when he led the MLB with 52 home runs, a record that stood until 1998. He also drove in 149 runs, earning him both the National League's Most Valuable Player award and the prestigious Sporting News Major League Player of the Year award. Foster was the first player in the National League to hit 50 home runs in a season since 1947. During his eleven seasons with the Reds, Foster was named an All-Star five times. He played a crucial role in the Reds' World Series championships in 1975 and 1976, notably hitting .429 and driving in five runs in the 1976 series. After his tenure with the Reds, Foster played for the New York Mets from 1982 to 1986 and briefly for the Chicago White Sox in 1986.

He retired from professional baseball at the end of the 1986 season. Over the span of his 18-season career in the MLB, Foster compiled a batting average of .274 with 348 home runs and 1,239 runs batted in. Post-retirement, Foster stayed connected with the game, conducting baseball clinics and serving as a hitting instructor for the Baltimore Orioles in the late 1990s.
