George Simmons Coe Autographs, Memorabilia & Collectibles

George Simmons Coe (1817-1896) was the President of the American Exchange National Bank of New York. His New York Times obituary credits him with measures which helped save the value of US currency during the Civil War, and his collected papers in the collection of the Harvard Business School include correspondence with Salmon P. Chase, Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury (and future Chief Justice). An address by Coe to the American Bankers Association, "The Real Service That Bankers Render to Commerce, and How They Do It" (1886), was widely reprinted.
