GREEN BAY PACKERS
Biography | show moreshow less
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They were established on August 11, 1919, by Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Calhoun. The team holds the unique distinction of being the third-oldest franchise in the National Football League (NFL), and the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States.

The Packers have a rich history of success, including multiple NFL championships. They won the first two Super Bowls (Super Bowl I and II) under the legendary coach Vince Lombardi, for whom the Super Bowl trophy is now named. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the Packers have won a total of 13 league championships, the most in NFL history. Lambeau Field, the Packers' home stadium since 1957, is one of the most storied venues in the NFL. It's known for its "Frozen Tundra" during late season games and its dedicated fan base known as "Cheeseheads."

Notable players throughout Packers history include Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers, all winners of the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Each of these quarterbacks led the team to Super Bowl victories, cementing the Packers' reputation for excellence.
The team's traditional rivals are the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings, which compose the NFC North division with the Packers. The Packers-Bears rivalry is one of the oldest in NFL history. The Green Bay Packers' deep history, community ownership, and track record of success make them a unique and iconic part of the American sports landscape.
