Greta Garbo, a Swedish-born actress who captivated audiences during Hollywood's silent and early talkie eras, was born on September 18, 1905, in Stockholm, Sweden. Earning acclaim for her striking beauty and intense, naturalistic performances, Garbo quickly rose to international stardom.

Garbo's breakout role in the United States was in "The Torrent" (1926). However, she gained significant recognition for her performances in "Flesh and the Devil" (1927) and "Love" (1927), where her on-screen chemistry with co-star John Gilbert became a Hollywood legend. Transitioning to talkies, Garbo delivered a memorable performance in "Anna Christie" (1930), famously promoted with the tagline "Garbo Talks!" She further impressed audiences in films such as "Mata Hari" (1931), "Grand Hotel" (1932), and her arguably most remembered role in "Camille" (1936). Garbo received four Academy Award nominations for Best Actress during her career and was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1954 for her unforgettable screen performances. She was notorious for her reclusive lifestyle after retiring from the film industry in 1941.
