Biography
English historian and novelist HERBERT GEORGE WELLS (1866-1946) not only wrote the ambitious The Outline of History (1920), but also a considerable number of enduring science fiction novels including The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War of the Worlds (1898), which caused a panic when Orson Welles broadcast it on the radio on Halloween in 1938.
