Haym Salomon began his journey by joining the secret organization Sons of Liberty. This organization was put in place to fight against the British Government for taxation. Salomon was then arrested as a spy in 1776. He was placed on a boat with Hessian soldiers and used as in interpreter. In this time, he decided to use this to his advantage and help prisoners escape the British, he was arrested again, in which he escaped. Salomon resettled in Philadelphia. While working as a broker he became the paymaster and consul for the French forces. He then met Robert Morris in 1781 and began working with the finances for the Thirteen Colonies. August of 1781 Salomon raised $20,000 for George Washington, Washington using this money to conduct the Yorktown campaign which was the final battle for the Revolution! In 1785 he passed away from tuberculosis and his family was left in poverty as his fortune was gone from the purchasing of the Continental debit the Government never paid back.
