Biography
Helen O'Connell (1920-1993) was lead female vocalist with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra (1939-1943), scoring several hit records in duets with Bob Eberly. "Amapola" was one of these. Leaving show business for 8 years during her first marriage, she returned to TV in the 1950s, featured on the Today show and hosting her own interview program, Here's Hollywood. She co-hosted many beauty pageants, and was nominated for an Emmy for her coverage of the Miss Universe contest (1976). Playing herself, she sang "Green Eyes" in the film The Fabulous Dorseys (1947). Her recording of "Brazil" with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (1942) is in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
