Iron Sheik Autographs, Memorabilia & Collectibles
The Iron Sheik, born Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri in Tehran, Iran in 1943, is a retired Greco-Roman and professional wrestler. He's probably best known for losing the heavyweight champion belt in the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) to Hulk Hogan. Hogan escaped from the Sheik's supposedly inescapable Camel Clutch hold and won the championship for the first time; because of this match, Hogan subsequently went on to become one of the most famous wrestlers in the world. The Sheik was most often a heel with the in-ring persona of an anti-American Arab. He allied with the "Russian" (actually Croatian) Nikolai Volkoff to form the "Foreign Legion", then wrestled under the ring name of Col. Mustafa, an "Iraqi", with "Iraqi sympathizer" and face-turned-heel Sgt. Slaughter in 1991 and 1992, around the time of Operation: Desert Storm. He has had occasional in-ring appearances since 1996. He was also AAU Greco-Roman Wrestling champion at 180.5 pounds and, despite his anti-American characters, was assistant coach of two Olympic squads during the 1970s.
