JACK BUCHANAN
Born: April 02, 1891 in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, United Kingdom
Died: October 20, 1957 in London, England, United Kingdom
Biography
Scottish-born Jack Buchanan (1890-1957) debuted on the London stage in 1912 and on the silver screen five years later. Despite being a Scot, he was often cast as the quintessential Englishman. His film appearances included Monte Carlo (1930), Brewster's Millions (1935) and The Band Wagon(1953). He held his own when paired with other debonair screen personalities like Maurice Chevalier and Fred Astaire. When Brewster's Millions was re-filmed in an English setting, Buchanan was a logical choice for the starring role. The popular story, originating as a 1902 novel, has been made into a play and 7 feature films. Buchanan's was the first talking version. Buchanan was a popular radio announcer during World War II, and again with his Man About Town series in the 1950s.
