Biography
Jack Dempsey, born as William Harrison Dempsey on June 24, 1895, in Manassa, Colorado, was one of boxing's all-time greats, a legendary figure in the 20th century sports world. Known as the "Manassa Mauler," Dempsey held the World Heavyweight Championship from 1919 to 1926 and participated in some of the most lucrative fights of the era.

Dempsey was known for his aggressive style and exceptional punching power. He won the heavyweight title in 1919 with a sensational victory over Jess Willard, knocking him down seven times in the first round. Dempsey successfully defended his title five times, including a thrilling two-round victory over French boxer Georges Carpentier in 1921, which was the first million-dollar gate in boxing history. His loss to Gene Tunney in 1926 in Philadelphia was one of the most famous bouts in boxing history, especially their rematch a year later known for the controversial "long count."
